Q: Will I receive any health or pension benefits?
A: Yes. IBEW Local Union #80 has negotiated the following Benefits:
- Family Health Insurance Coverage at no cost to employee
- 3% gross payroll Company contribution Retirement Pension (all apprentices & journeymen)
- 7% gross payroll Company contribution Retirement Pension (2nd year and above)
- $1 per hour Company contribution Annuity Pension (2nd year and above)
- National Pension Retirement Plan (When an apprentice becomes a member of IBEW Local Union # 80)
- Credit Union Savings Plan 4% of gross weekly payroll is automatically deducted and deposited into your personal credit union account. (all apprentices and journeymen)
Q: Do I have to pay any union dues in the IBEW / NECA-sponsored program?
A: Yes. IBEW Local 80 has a working assessment of 5%. Each apprentice and journeyman sign authorization card allowing your employer to automatically deduct the assessment and submit it to the local union. The International office dues are $40.70 per month upon becoming a member of IBEW Local Union 80.
Q: Will I have to attend school?
A: Yes. All apprentices are required to attend 77 three-hour sessions of related classroom instruction two evenings a week starting the Wednesday after Labor Day each year. There are occasional Saturday sessions throughout the school year.
Q: Is there any out-of-pocket expenses to be an apprentice?
A: Yes. All apprentices are responsible for paying an annual registration fee. The estimated fee for the 2023-24 school year is $1,250.00. To be paid at the time of acceptance into the program.
